This is my favourite time of year – for many reasons – I love the sense of the Earth waking from it’s winter sleep, the signs of new life as the trees and plants spring to life and the birds waking me with their dawn chorus.
Also though the is Wild Garlic Season – Forest floors are covered with carpets of white blossoms creating in even the deepest forests an injection of brightness, beauty and life.
We can take advantage of this special time and take ourselves out into the wild to do some foraging and at the same time enhance our physical and mental wellbeing in the following ways.
Beauty and inspiration
Taking the time to get out into the fresh air and to exercise in these beautiful and rare wild places lifts the spirits, reduces stress and supports the immune system.
Forest bathing
Forest bathing, also known as Shinrin-yoku, is the practice of spending time in a forest or other natural environment to improve overall health and wellbeing. The benefits of forest bathing are numerous and have been scientifically studied. Firstly, it has been shown to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation. The scent of trees, the sound of running water, and the visual beauty of nature can help calm the mind and reduce anxiety. Secondly, forest bathing can improve immune function. Trees emit essential oils, called phytoncides, which have been shown to enhance the activity of natural killer cells in the body, which play an important role in fighting off disease. Additionally, spending time in nature can help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. Finally, forest bathing can improve overall mood and well-being, with many people reporting feeling happier and more energized after spending time in nature.
Wild places and gut health
The microbiome is a term that is not just limited to the human body, but can also refer to the vast array of microorganisms that exist in the soil. A healthy soil microbiome is essential for healthy plant growth, as the microorganisms present help break down nutrients and make them available to plants. However, recent research has also suggested that soil microbiomes may play a role in human health, particularly gut health. This is because the microorganisms present in the soil can have a beneficial impact on the gut microbiome, which in turn can impact overall health. Exposure to healthy soil microbiomes can help diversify the bacteria present in the gut, leading to improved digestion, stronger immune function, and even mental health benefits. Dr. Zach Bush an expert in this field suggests that we get ourselves out exercising in as many different wild places as possible in order to improve our gut health.
Health Benefits of Wild Garlic
Wild garlic, also known as ramsons, is a delicious and nutritious plant that can provide numerous health benefits. Firstly, it is packed with antioxidants, which can help protect the body against damage caused by free radicals. Additionally, wild garlic contains allicin, a compound known for its antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties, which can help strengthen the immune system and prevent infections. Wild garlic is also high in vitamins A and C, as well as minerals such as iron, magnesium, and potassium, all of which are important for maintaining good health. Moreover, wild garlic has been shown to have a positive effect on cholesterol levels and blood pressure, making it a great addition to a heart-healthy diet. Lastly, it has a delicious, pungent flavour and can be used in a variety of dishes, from soups and stews to pestos and salads.
Please always be careful when foraging in the wild that you are confident that you have identified the correct plant, if you have any doubts it’s best not to take any chances. Also make sure to be respectful of these wild places, only pick a small amount and take leaves from different plants so as not to kill the plant, we must forage in a way that is sustainable and which leaves no trace.
I will finish by sharing my favourite Wild Garlic Pesto recipe.

Note: Wild garlic leaves can have a strong flavor, so you may adjust the quantity according to your taste preferences.

I always think February/March is a strange in between time of transitioning seasons. Its officially Spring here in Ireland and while the Camellia and Rhododendrons have interjected the Grey of Winter with a vibrant burst of colour, the weather remains cold, grey and harsh.
It can be a challenging time for our skin. The longer days and subtle signs of nature reawakening encourage us to get out and face the harsh winds that can chap and damage skin. Then whilst indoors we are sitting in centrally heated offices and homes or have hot air blown at us as we heat our cars. This can all contribute to our skin looking slightly dull and tired.
So I thought I would introduce you to a skincare combination that just seems to work synergistically to reenergise the skin leaving it more radiant and supple.
Introducing Flourish Rose Combination and Rose Quartz – A match made in heaven.
Rose Hip Oil is packed with those beauty essentials Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Essential Fatty Acids. Anti Inflammatory and nurturing, Rose Hip oil treats dry and tired skin, hydrates and repairs damaged skin and provides a strong protective anti-oxidant boost. It is also fortified by the aroma therapeutic benefits of Rose Essential Oils – one of the most luxurious oils in Aromatherapy (Each bottle of Rose Hip Oil contains the oil of over 500 roses)
It is an anti-oxidant, promoting scar healing and protection against environmental pollutants.
Its astringent properties tones and lifts the skin leaving it feeling bright and radiant.
Rose Mist Toner: In a base of organic Rose Water it has Bush Flower Remedies/ Shea Oak and Mulla-Mulla Flower, which both rehydrate thirsty skin and are used to eradicate the negative effects of radiation making it ideal not only as a facial toner for the daily routine but also as a Pick me Up for the skin while working on computers or long-haul flight. A few sprays on a cotton pad and placed over the eyes can ease and refresh dry itchy eyes.
Rose Face Cream : One of my personal favourites. It’s fortified with a plant based protein ( Lupine Peptide ) and of course the super luxurious Rose essential oil.
Rose Quartz – I was recently gifted a Rose Quartz face roller. I was a bit sceptical at first but having tried it now for a few weeks I’m completely hooked. Here are some of the stated benefits of the face roller.
From my experience using it the most striking benefits are the sense of relaxation this new little bedtime ritual brings, a great way to wind down and get ready for sleep. I also got the sense that it helped to absorb the face oil deeply into the skin leaving my face feeling deeply moisturised, supple and radiant.

I recently had a request from someone who bought our Facial Spa Experience for some general guidelines on how to use the products in a home facial.
It got me thinking about how at a time when Spa and Beautician Appointments are a little rarer and having gone through one of the most challenging times of our generation that our bodies and particularly our beautiful faces could do with as much care and pampering as we can give them.
So I decided to do a video of a short facial that is both pampering and relaxing.
Click on the videos below
What I realized for myself is even though I have unlimited supply of all these beautiful products I very rarely put the time aside to give myself a full facial. I was amazed firstly how fantastic my skin felt afterwards but also just how powerful it is to carve out even a short period of time and set the intention to put all our focus during that time on self-care and pampering. Afterwards I felt deeply relaxed and replenished with energy.
So I know that during challenging times it can be tempting to just forge ahead and force ourselves to keep going but eventually this takes its toll on our body. We end up depleted and drained.
By putting 20 minutes aside where we carve time out for ourselves and set the intention to honour and care for our bodies benefits will amaze you and it’s one of the secrets to sustainable energy and well-being.
Don’t worry if you don’t have all the products – just gather together the products you do have. However if you would like to experience the Full Facial Flourish Spa Experience we have created a special offer which you can find here:

Now more than ever I believe we are so aware of climate change and the urgency in implementing changes that are more sustainable. When Covid first hit last March and a global lockdown was enforced, amidst the fear and panic and grief we witnessed a glimmer of hope as our lack of activity created an immediate restoration of this beautiful planet.
It made me realise just how quickly the Earth can restore itself when we tread a little lighter and reduce our carbon footprint. I know I am not the only one that feels more determined than ever to be a lot more aware of my impact on the planet and to take action on reducing that impact as much as is humanly possible.
So in honour of Earth Day I though I would celebrate our beautiful planet ;
We still have a way to go and if you have any ideas on how we can improve even further we would be so grateful for your feedback.
What we have implemented so far
ORGANIC CERTIFICATION:
We have always used organic ingredients but 10 years ago we decided to make a commitment and get fully certified organic with the Irish Organic Association. These strict organic standards are a reassurance to customers we never use artificial fragrances, petrochemicals or contribute to pollution through the use of herbicides and pesticides.
ECO PARCELS
We changed from bubble wrap and plastic padded envelopes to corrugated card and paper padded envelopes. We wrap each product in unbleached tissue paper and decorate it with a sprig of lavender picked from our organic garden.
ECO FRIENDLY SUPPLIERS
We requested that all of our suppliers use only glass bottles for our oils. The bigger bulk ingredients that come in large plastic containers are repurposed as planters in our garden.
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
We use an electricity supplier that provides 100% renewable energy. Our water is heated by solar panels and our premises are heated by wood pellets. We have invested in electric cars so that all our travel and some of the bigger hotels deliveries are done with Zero Emissions. We plan to get photovoltaic solar panels to further minimise the impact on the environment.
GLASS CONTAINERS
We use pure white glass pots for all our face creams and face masks which can be recycled or if you buy from local vendors can be returned and are then repurposed in many creative ways.
NATURAL GIFTS
Our gift baskets are not covered in cellophane or any other plastics. They are filled with wood wool which can be composted or used for fire kindling and we purposely chose a basket that is beautiful enough to be repurposed for storage.
SUPPORT LOCAL
Each product is produced from scratch by ourselves on site in small batches. There are no second party factories involved which minimises our carbon footprint which means you are also supporting your local economy.
PLANTING TREES
We are in the process of buying land where we will plant native trees to naturally absorb carbon and therefore to help combat climate change.

Spring is in the air. It literally woke me up this morning as the sun streamed into my window and the dawn chorus filled my ears, lifted my heart and made me smile.
I thought of the Song “The Cherry Trees” by John Spillane where he sings: “We have travelled all around the sun, it has taken us one whole year. Well done everyone – well done”. This year in particular we have had a particularly challenging journey and a bigger reason to congratulate ourselves.
Here is a link to watch John Spillane's beautiful song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBztCKFBVrU
So I thought this would a great opportunity to acknowledge the journey with a pampering selfcare ritual that also focuses on letting go of the old to allow the space and peace to receive the new.
Spring is a time where we begin to prepare our body for the more active times of summer. We also need to prepare our skin as we slowly begin peeling of the layers of clothing and exposing our skin which may have been neglected and become sluggish and dull during the winter months.
So for this Spring Ritual we will use the Lemongrass Bodyscrub.
Our Lemongrass Bodyscrub is such a Springtime treat. It is in a cream base so it deeply moisturizes the skin. The exfoliation is created with apricot kernels and the essential oils of Grapefruit, Lemongrass and Lime are uplifting making it perfect for that refreshing wake-up shower on a bright Spring morning.
GRAPEFRUIT: It is a lymphatic stimulant, nourishes the tissue cells and controls liquid processes making it helpful around fluid retention and its diuretic properties can help with cellulite.
LEMONGRASS: It has a revitalising action making it a good tonic for the body. It’s stimulating, reviving and energising. It lifts the spirits and gets thing moving again.
LIME: It is a tonic to the immune system and reenforces energy after illness. It has a tonic and refreshing action on the skin an is refreshing and uplifting for the mind.
Give your self and extra 10-15 minutes to really reap the benefits of this revitalising shower.
To celebrate this renewal and new beginnings we are offering an amazing 50% discount on our Bodyscrub for the month of April exclusively to our Newsletter subscribers. So make sure to sign up to our newsletter where you receive Special Offers and well being tips.

]]>It has come to my attention that our Lavender Lip Balm is quickly getting the reputation for being a wonderful universal balm for so much that ails you. I first became aware of its versatility when I travelled with my family to Spain. Because of restrictions around liquids I didn’t bring my usual potions and lotions. During our holiday my niece got sunburned shoulders and a blob of Lavender Lip Balm quickly soothed the pain and eased the burn.
Nasty mosquito bites were healed by the Lavender and when I pulled a muscle in my leg a massage with the Lavender Lip Balm eased the pain so now I never leave home without it.
I have since received so much feedback from customers on such a variety of successes they have had with the Lavender Lip Balm that I have decided to do a list of uses that go above and beyond of what it says on the tin.

Now more than ever staying positive and well during the darker, colder days of winter is so important. Keeping our energy high and clear and our immune system strong will support our body in what is hopefully the last lockdown of this pandemic.
I have come up with a few tips to support your body and immune system. They may seem unconventional at first glance but in the 23 years I have worked in the beauty and wellness industry these have proven the most powerful and empowering.
COMING HOME TO YOURSELF
I have worked with hundreds of clients and without fail the root of the disharmony in their bodies and lives was a sense of separation from themselves. Often we get so caught up in shoulds and expectations that we find ourselves living a life so far away from who we truly are, that we feel lost and confused. Our body’s way of telling us we are off track is to create disharmony and stress. The stress and disharmony is our guide, listen to it and hear it as a clear reminder to come home to ourselves. The process of returning to ourselves is a journey that can be challenging but is always empowering and rewarding.
I have recorded a short meditation/visualisation to get you started on that journey. Listen and see what it creates in your body and your life. It may just be the catalyst for small awareness and changes that propel you forward with greater clarity on that journey.
RAISE YOUR ENERGY
Whilst training to be a Tai Chi teacher we learnt how feelings and emotions calibrated at different vibrations, with fear and depression vibrating at the lowest frequency and joy and inspiration at the highest. Where there is a low, dense energy there is the potential for disharmony and illness and in contrast the higher frequencies cultivate healing and harmony in our body. What ‘s really empowering is that we have a choice. We could choose to resonate with and add to the general energy of fear that surrounds something like the pandemic we are experiencing now or we could choose to focus our energy on faith, joy and inspiration and in so doing be the energy we wish to see in the world. We can raise our energy by being very selective about where we put our focus. By avoiding too much exposure to fear-based media and Facebook feeds. Focus instead on everything that inspires. A walk in nature, being in the company of uplifting optimistic friends, playing with your joy filled and loyal dog. Another effective means of raising our energy is with Chi Gung exercises. I have included a video of an exercise called Butterfly Sweeps which I have found to be one of the easiest and most effective ways to go beyond fear and calibrate to a truer more beautiful energy vibration .
ECSTASY IN THE ORDINARY
Pleasure can often be seen as fickle, superficial or shallow. But there is great power in pleasure. When we experience deep pleasure it triggers the release of oxytocin known as the god hormone because of its ability to connect cells. Our thinking mind has a tendency to take us away from our sensory experiences but we can learn to awaken the senses and magnify that pleasure to an ecstasy that releases oxytocin and brings vibrancy and expansion to our bodies and reconnects the cells so that they flow and communicate in harmony. We can do this in many ways. We could eat a sweet, juicy mango with heightened senses or here is an example of an experiment you can try:
Take yourself on a walk in the park or in the forest and set the intention to really awaken the senses. Take a deep breath and take in the scent of the forest – receive the spicy earthiness and allow it to awaken every cell in your body. Feel the texture of the tree bark the soft moistness of the moss. Look upwards and witness the beauty of the forest canopy, the delicate, complex network of branches against the winter sky. Listen deeply, allow your ears receive the delicate birdsong, allow its beauty to enter your heart and to lift and brighten it and then allow that brightness and joy to emanate from your heart and flow into every cell in your body. Magnify the joy and pleasure of being here fully until every cell feels completely bathed in joy and pleasure and returns to complete harmony and connection giving the body the potential for complete healing and strengthens and fortifies the immune system. Before leaving the forest set the intention to carry that sense of pleasure and aliveness with you as you go about your day.
I invite you to try one or all of these techniques and see if your sense of wellbeing improves. Wellbeing is something that we create and this period of lockdown is a great opportunity to create clarity and strength for the year ahead.

The past few months have been a time of loss, uncertainty and change, all of which are experienced as a form of stress in the body. So I have decided to share with you a decadent Rose Bath Ritual with and accompanying recording of a meditation as part of an overall restorative experience.
Once a year when the rose garden is at its best I treat myself to the most decadent summer rituals – The Rose bath.
For me it is a way to thank my body for all it’s done and all I have put it through and to give it the pampering and restoration it requires. If you are familiar with the Flourish Organics Range you will know that Rose is one of my favourite essential oils. It is probably the most decadent oil (it takes 60 roses to just make one drop of rose oil) and the benefits are truly amazing and include:
I think most importantly for me Rose Oil is said to be the oil of the angels because its energy vibrates at a high frequency so if you ever felt that you have been warn down by life and your energy is heavy and dull I highly recommend Rose Oil to lighten up your energy and remind you of the lightness and aliveness that is truly you.
Because I have access to hundreds of fresh damask roses I don’t require the essential oil. I allow the scent to mix with the steam from the bath and fill the air and dissolve into the water and the effect is deeply relaxing and restorative.
However, I have also provided a recipe for a beautiful alternative using dried rose petals and essential oil.
When buying Rose Essential Oil please be cautious of buying oil that is adulterated or synthetic. Here is the general rule: You get what you pay for and if it is cheap it is most likely to be synthetic and will do more harm than good. We recommend Atlantic Aromatics for a good quality Rose Oil.
Recipe: 1 bowl of dead seas salt
1 handful of dried rose petals
5 drops of Rose absolute essential oil
Instructions:
You can be guided to this relaxation with this guided meditation
If you do not have a bath you could use our rose products for a similar effect allow the therapeutic benefits of the rose to have the same effect whilst listening to the guided meditation.
These are strange and challenging times and I have spent the last few weeks wondering what contribution I could possibly be. One of the things I have found most moving and which really pulled at my heartstrings, is the fact that our elders, our sick and our most vulnerable have been devoid of hugs. People with chronic conditions going without the emotional support of the hugs of those that they care about. Grandparents feeling the absence of that pure delight that is their grandchildren’s embrace.
Hugs are so important to our mental and emotional health. They release oxytocin (the love hormone) which makes us feel nurtured and safe. It relaxes the nervous system and in turn helps to balance out all the systems of the body and boost the immune system, which ironically is exactly what we require right now.
So I have recorded a meditation - a visualisation of an energetic hug. It guides us through all the stages of receiving a hug to the release of oxytocin so that we actually experience the benefits of it in our body but most importantly in our heart.
The other thing that has really struck me over the past few weeks is just how loud and vibrant and so so beautiful the bird song has been. It has brought joy into my heart each morning and so I recorded the meditation at dawn so that I could be accompanied by the dawn chorus and in the hopes that it will also fill your heart with joy.
I know these are times of loss and uncertainty but for me they are also times of hope and inspiration. I have been inspired by the fact that a whole nation has come to a stand still and stayed home to protect our weak, our sick and our elders. For me it is the greatest and most beautiful act of kindness I have experienced in my lifetime. It fills me with hope that we will emerge from this experience with a new perspective and a clear sense of what is truly important. I know it has altered me and I believe it will alter the whole world for the greater.
So please feel free to share this meditation with anyone who is self-isolating or anyone you miss and would love to hug.

]]>Summer is an amazing time of the year. We are generally more active and out enjoying the fresh air and so it has the potential to see our skin at its most radiant and sun kissed.
However, we also need to give extra attention to our skincare adding a few additional steps in our beauty regime.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Make sure to drink more than your usual 8 glasses of water on hot days. Allowing your body to get dehydrated has an adverse effect on your skin and your internal organs not to mention your energy levels and your potential to enjoy the summer to its fullest.
I like to get myself a really nice jug and fill it with water in the morning adding some lemon, lime or mint and this entices me to keep drinking throughout the day.
In summer Perspiration can make it seem as though your skin is more moist than other seasons. But have you ever noticed after a day in the beach and swimming in the sea your skin can feel weathered and tight. This is where an extra moisturizing routine can come to your skins rescue. In the evening when my skin has that dry tight feeling I use Jasmine Face Oil. Jasmine not only smells amazing and relaxes the whole body, it is an emollient and increases elasticity in the skin. As soon as I apply the oil I feel my skin breathe a sigh of relieve. I then apply Jasmine Face Mask over the oil and I leave it to work its magic for as long as possible. I then rinse my face with warm water, pat it dry and apply our Vitamin E Face Cream. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and excellent at healing the kin and with essential oils Lavender, Geranium and Frankincense they work together synergistically to nourish and repair the skin leaving it feeling smooth, subtle and soft.
Summer time is a great opportunity to eat a diet that is light and healthy. The body desires less heavy meals and comfort foods. Hot weather lends so well to eating fresh salads el fresco however the lure of barbeque and ice-cream can mean that we overburden our bodies during a time when our metabolism is slowed doesn’t by the heat. So take advantage of our bodies desire for light, healthy foods and really listen to your body before you stuff it with heavy meals that it really doesn’t need or want. When our body is happy our skin is happy, our eyes are brighter and we radiate natural beauty.
Summer is insect season and no matter how well we look after our skin if we are covered in insect bites not only does it look awful, but it can drive us mad with itching in the heat. A good insect repellent is what is needed but beware of using chemical products that do your skin more harm than good. Essential oils are a great natural insect repellents. Citronella and Lemongrass are probably the best and smell so much better than the chemical nasties.
Flourish Organics have a Lemongrass Hand Cream that can actually be used all over the body and makes a great and brilliantly moisturizing insect repellent.
]]>Spring is a time for rejuvenation and renewal. We let go of and clear out the old in order to allow room for the fresh and the new. Winter in contrast can lead to stagnation as we are less active, eat heavier foods and often are affected by colds and flu.
]]>Spring is a time for rejuvenation and renewal. We let go of and clear out the old in order to allow room for the fresh and the new.
Winter in contrast can lead to stagnation as we are less active, eat heavier foods and often are affected by colds and flu.
As a result toxins can build up in the body and leave the immune system suppressed and our energy levels low and flat.
We can often find ourselves in a vicious circle of feeling overwhelmed with the struggle of merely function in our daily lives which can lead to heavy, pessimistic thinking which then leads to low stifled energy and so the cycle goes on.
HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS. You now have a choice to change this by introducing small incremental steps towards clearing out old stagnant energy and toxins and opening up to new energy, fresh prospective and radiant health and beauty.
I’d invite you to play with even some of the suggestions below
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
In order to assist your body in flushing out toxins drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day.
If you could drink two of those glasses warm and before breakfast that is even better. But just aim to drink plenty of water and do whatever it takes to look after and hydrate your body – e.g invest in a stainless steel water bottle that you always have with you or at home fill a beautiful pitcher of water and add slices of fruit or cucumber and mint so that it invites and reminds you to drink plenty.
ELIMINATE OR REDUCE REFINED SUGAR, PROCSSED FOOD AND ALCOHOL AND INTRODUCE MORE WATER RICH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES
I am not a huge fan of hard-core detoxification programmes. Often they can be hard on the body and leave you feeling headachy and sick. But without going to extremes you can begin by just introducing more water based fruit and vegetables, so having a fruit salad or fruit smoothie for breakfast. Then for your main meal reduce slightly the amounts of carbs and protein and fill ¾ of your plate with a tasty, vibrant salad.
GET MOVING
Our bodies love to move so whatever form of movement brings your body joy carve some time out of your busy schedule and allow your body the joy of movement.
Our Purify Massage Oil is fantastic for supporting the body during detoxification. It contains:
Grapefruit which is uplifting and reviving. It has a balancing and and tonic effect on the digestive system and a detoxifying effect on the body.
Lime which is activating and stimulating especially where there is apathy or you are feeling sluggish and it is also a digestion stimulant.
Niaoli is stimulating and reviving. It clears the head and aids concentration and is a tonic for digestion and fortifies the body
Juniper clears and stimulates the mind. Drives out toxins and is a tonic for the liver.
You can use this oil in a self massage each morning to uplift and support your body.
]]>Daily lymphatic drainage massage to maintain your natural beauty
By popular request from those who attended the Spa at Muckross Platinum Members event I am enclosing a link to the Youtube clip of the lymphatic Drainage Massage which I demonstrated on the evening.
For those who missed the event be sure to sign up as a member it's free and the events are such a decedent treat with bottles of bubbly , music and delicious food, not to mention the amazing staff who are on hand to answer questions and generally look after everyone and of course the speakers who on this occasion just happened to be me.
The Lymphatic System
The Lymphatic system is like the work buddy of the circulatory system but unlike the circulatory system it doesn’t have a heart to pump it round and keep it flowing smoothly. It requires a bit of support and maintenance. Often if you neglect your daily exercise, aren’t eating a healthy diet, or have an imbalance in the hormonal system it can result in a sluggish lymphatic system which shows itself in the form of of fluid retention and puffiness around the eyes, jaw line and under the chin.
This short exercise not only eliminates this puffiness but it adds to the radiance of the skin and can even support the immune system by maintaining the upper Lymphatic system.
It will add maybe 5 minutes to your daily facial routine and the benefits are well worth the extra effort and if you just haven’t got the time to do it daily maybe even put time aside once a week on your day off to add this effective beauty tip to your beauty ritual.
